old People Don’t Need Much Food

I do not need a daily balanced diet.

My body is a miser, it grabs the nutrients and uses what it needs; then it hoards some. Some nutrients and trace elements are stored in our bones and muscles, others are stored as yellow fat and brown fat. My body and brain will call upon these when they are needed.

My lifestyle, will dictate what is right for me.

I shouldn’t pretend that I can count the calories needed, or control my estimated 100 trillion microbial cells that reside in my gut, representing about 5,000 different species—and weighing about 5 pounds. This microbiome processes my food and decides what is needed, what is stored, and what is thrown out.
