Iodized Table Salt For A Healthy Thyroid Gland

We need iodized table salt for a healthy thyroid gland.

The Thyroid Gland, The Master Gland Of Metabolism

As we ventured inland a million years ago, away from our origin, we began to eat fewer green things and we lost our supply of iodine.

Iodine deficiency today is the leading cause of preventable mental retardation in the world. Additionally, lack of adequate iodine is responsible for 10 to 15 IQ points. Furthermore it does a lot of harm to social and economic development of nations and communities. 2

Our government, the news media, our intelligentsia, the medical industry and various other well meaning or devious benefactors of a sick population have had us remove iodized table salt from our diet.

Iodized Table Salt For Goiter Problem

Away back in 1924 our government saw the thyroid and goiter problem. They mandated that all table salt be iodized. As a matter of fact, this single act solved the goiter problem and prevented much mental retardation. (1)

The public has been bludgeoned with misinformation about salt for more than half a century. Now we are afraid to put iodized table salt on our food. Additionally, we are facing thyroid problems. Now, the medical profession is busy dishing out thyroid medications that contain iodine.

We need more greens, fish, nuts and olive oil in our diet.

Each of us began life with a thyroid gland “the master gland of metabolism” that straddles the voice box. What’s more, this thyroid gland needs iodine to function.

Non-iodized salt replaced the iodized table salt. Furthermore, the food processors put that in our food. As we eat more commercially processed food we need to insure that we have enough iodine in our diet.

Salt used in processed foods doesn’t have iodine. Also, given that people are cooking less at home and buying either restaurant or processed foods, iodine intakes in the U.S. have declined by about one third.

Sea Salt

Not all table salt on today’s market contains iodine. Additionally, some salt sold as SEA SALT does not contain iodine. Furthermore, some actual SEA SALT is not iodized even though it does contain some iodine. If the SEA SALT is truly SEA SALT, then it will have multi-colored flecks of salt throughout. When it its processed they heat it to about 1300 degrees and “purify” the salt.

Get Iodine Naturally Or Over The Counter

We can regain this important nutrient by eating wild-caught fish, greens, nuts and oils like olive oil that contain omega-3s.

Also, iodine is cheap and is available in several forms at the local pharmacy or health food store. Additionally, you can buy it as kelp or in tablets or liquid.
